Guna Raj Luitel for The Himalayan Times:
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) said it has take action against the head of Beijing based Investment Promotion Office, Yuandong Hu, for making a controversial agreement with the Asia Pacific Exchange and Cooperation Foundation (APECF) regarding a three-billion-dollar fundraiser aimed for a special project in Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, in Nepal.
[...]
UNIDO headquarters has written to its office in Beijing informing that the agreement with APECF was invalid.
And, a day later:
The UNIDO headquarters has written to APEC informing that the deal is not acceptable. Nepal’s permanent representative to the UN has hailed the UNIDO move, a source said.
This begins to look like quite a stunt. I wouldn’t be surprised if Beijing pulls the plug now. If not then there is probably more to it than we know.
